Help with the SEOComet SEO Toolbar for Chrome and the SEOComet web app. Email [email protected] and a person will reply, usually within one or two working days.
What to include in a report
- For the toolbar: its version (open chrome://extensions and press Details under SEOComet SEO Toolbar) and your Chrome version (chrome://settings/help)
- The address of the page you were checking
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead
- A screenshot, if you can
- For the web app: the workspace name, and the site or monitor involved
SEO Toolbar
- Do I need an account to use the toolbar?
- No. The toolbar works on its own, with no sign-up and no SEOComet account.
- Why does it ask for these permissions?
- Storage saves your settings (theme, exclude list, SEO bar on or off) and short-lived caches of robots.txt rules and check results. webRequest reads the status code, redirects and response headers of the page’s own load, for the HTTP headers tab and the X-Robots-Tag check; it only reads and never blocks or changes anything. webNavigation ties those headers to the right page and notices route changes in single-page apps so the badge and bar update. Scripting adds the checker to tabs that were already open when the toolbar was installed or updated. Access to all http and https sites is needed because the toolbar has to read whatever page you’re on, fetch that site’s robots.txt and sitemap, check image sizes and link status when you ask, and show the SEO bar.
- Why does Web Vitals say there’s no data?
- Web Vitals come from Google’s Chrome UX Report, which only covers pages and sites with enough real Chrome visitors. When the page itself has too little traffic, the toolbar shows the whole site’s numbers instead; when the site has too little as well, there is nothing to show. That’s a limit of the report, not a fault on your page. If you see a message about the shared quota instead, add your own CrUX API key in the toolbar’s Settings or try again later.
- How do I turn the SEO bar on or off?
- Press Alt+A, or Ctrl+Cmd+A on a Mac. That turns the bar on or off on every tab. You can also switch it in the toolbar’s Settings, under SEO bar on pages, and change the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. The bar is off until you turn it on. To keep it off particular sites, add them to the exclude list in Settings.
- Where does my data go?
- Nowhere near SEOComet. The toolbar talks to the site you’re checking, to Google’s Chrome UX Report API when you ask for Web Vitals, and to the image and link addresses on the page when you press a check button. The toolbar section of the privacy policy lists every request.
- How do I remove it?
- Right-click the toolbar’s icon and choose Remove from Chrome, or open chrome://extensions and press Remove under SEOComet SEO Toolbar. Removing it deletes its settings and caches too.
Web app
- My verification email didn’t arrive
- Check your spam or junk folder first, and that the address on your account is spelled right. Then sign in and use Resend verification email on the Check your email page. If a new link still doesn’t arrive, write to us from that address.
- How do I add a site?
- Choose Add a site, from Sites or from the command palette (Cmd+K, or Ctrl+K), and enter the site’s address. SEOComet then finds its robots.txt, the sitemaps robots.txt lists, ads.txt and app-ads.txt, and adds monitors for them along with uptime and, for https sites, SSL, up to your plan’s limit. The Free plan has room for one site.
- Why does a check say “Couldn’t check”?
- SEOComet asked for the address and got no usable answer: a timeout, a refused connection, a DNS failure or a server error. Open the address yourself. If it fails for you too, look at the server and DNS. If it works for you, a firewall or bot protection may be blocking SEOCometBot; the SEOCometBot page has its user agent so you can allow it.
- How do alerts and channels work?
- A channel is somewhere alerts can go: an email channel, a Slack channel or a signed webhook (Slack and webhooks are on paid plans). An alert rule decides which incidents go to which channels, by severity, site, check type, issue or monitor tag. Every workspace starts with a rule called Warnings and critical that sends anything at warning or above to each channel you add. Use Send test on a channel to check it works. More about alert rules.
- I have a question about billing
- Changing plans, cancelling and updating your card all happen in the billing portal, under Settings, Billing. Only the workspace owner can open it. For anything else, write to [email protected].
- How do I delete my account?
- Open your profile settings and choose Delete account. That deletes the workspaces you own, with their sites, history and settings, and cancels their subscriptions. If someone else is a member of a workspace you own, transfer it to them first.
