Changing plan and downgrades
Move to another plan or billing period, and what happens to sites, checks, people and channels that are over the new plan’s limits.
Updated
You change plan under Account › Billing. Only the account’s owners can do it; other people don’t see Billing in the sidebar. Payments go through Dodo Payments, and you enter card details on their pages, not SEOComet’s.
Upgrade
On Free, press Upgrade to the plan you want. Dodo Payments’ checkout opens, and the new plan starts once you finish checkout.
On a paid plan, press Switch to a bigger plan. The change takes effect straight away, and you pay the difference for the rest of the period now. If that charge fails, nothing changes.
Either way, Billing updates once Dodo Payments confirms the change, usually within a few seconds. Checks the old plan paused start again, oldest first, and alert channels it turned off come back on.
Monthly or yearly
Use the Monthly and Yearly switch above the plans to see each period. On a paid plan, pick the other period and your current plan offers Switch to yearly billing or Switch to monthly billing. Like a change of plan, it takes effect straight away and the difference is charged or credited.
Downgrade
To move to a smaller paid plan, press Switch to that plan. It takes effect straight away. The difference is credited against your next payments, not paid back to your card.
To move to Free, cancel your subscription.
If a payment fails, Dodo Payments tries the card again over the next few days and you keep the plan meanwhile. If it still fails, the account moves to Free.
What pauses after a downgrade
Nothing is deleted straight away. SEOComet fits what you have to the new plan’s limits:
- Sites rank oldest first. On every site past the new site limit, all checks pause. The site and its history stay.
- Watched pages rank oldest first on each site. The newest ones past the per-site limit pause. Pages you paused yourself don’t hold a place here, so they never push a running page out. They still count when you add a new page. robots.txt, sitemaps, ads.txt, app-ads.txt, the homepage and SSL aren’t limited, so they keep running.
- Check speeds: every check moves to the new plan’s speeds. See How often checks run.
- Alert channels: on Free, Slack and webhook channels are turned off.
- People: nobody is removed, but you can’t invite anyone while the account is over its member limit.
- History: the old plan’s longer history is kept for 30 days, then trimmed to the new plan’s.
A check the plan paused says “Paused because it doesn’t fit your plan.” Its open incidents are resolved without sending alerts. Account › Billing shows how many checks are paused and how many channels are off.
These checks start again on their own, oldest first, when there’s room: after an upgrade, or after you delete a site or a check. Channels the plan turned off come back on after an upgrade. Channels turned off by hand stay off.
Cancel
Open the billing portal from Account › Billing with Manage in portal, or press Cancel in the billing portal on the Free plan. Invoices and the card on file are there too.
A cancellation stops the next renewal. You keep the paid plan until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and Billing shows the date it ends. Then the account moves to Free, and the steps under What pauses after a downgrade apply.
Payments aren’t refunded, including for the rest of a period you cancel. The refund policy lists the exceptions.
Deleting the account ends the subscription at once instead. See Delete an account.
